Three men were arrested on murder charges, accused of killing a man earlier this month in Downtown Bakersfield.

Nathaniel Mayfield, 24, Steven Buckner, 19, and Timon Everidge, 18, were arrested Friday for the murder of Sergio Mendoza.

Mendoza, 34, was found dead July 11 near the intersection of 19th and V Streets.

Mayfield, Buckner, and Everidge allegedly attacked Mendoza in the 400 block of 19th Street, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

Mendoza ran away, but the three men allegedly chased him down to the 300 block of 19th Street and continued the attack, BPD said.

Mendoza tried to defend himself, but was stabbed by Everidge during the attack and died at the scene, police said.

The three men allegedly left Mendoza to die, with Mayfield returning to the scene about an hour later, making “no attempt to summon aid,” according to police.

All three men were booked into jail on murder charges.

Police said they are still trying to find potential witnesses, and encouraged anyone with information on this murder to call Det. Chris Bagby at 661-326-3567 or the BPD main line at 661-327-7111.
