19-year-old arrested after ShotSpotter alerts police

A man is behind bars this morning after ShotSpotter notified Bakersfield Police Department of gunfire.

Angel Quair Jr., 19, was arrested for negligent discharge of a gun after investigators learned he fired a gun into a canal.

On Dec. 20 at 1:36 a.m., officers responded to the 10 block of N Street for for a ShotSpotter activation. When shots are fired, the ShotSpotter activates a detection system in police patrol vehicles which pinpoints where the sound is coming from.

When officers arrived, they found two people, including Quair, and a rifle in the area. Through investigation, officers learned Quair fired a single round into a nearby canal.

No victims were reported.
