Candis Beckemeyer was just two days shy of her sweet 16. But violence in south Bakersfield Saturday night led to the shooting of two individuals at a house party. And a 15-year-old Beckemeyer never made it home.
Just two days after her death, Candis’ family hosted a birthday celebration in Shafter – for the young woman who would be turning 16.
“She had this personality where even if you were having the worst day possible she would immediately jump in and just make everything better,” said Deborah Rodriguez, a close family friend.
Just before 1:30 Sunday morning, 15-year-old Candis Beckemeyer was shot to death.
“She didn’t deserve to leave us like this at all,” said Rodriguez, Tuesday.
“It sucks to know that my best friend is gone. And we don’t know who did it but I hope they find that person,” said Candis’ friend, Cassandra Duarte.
No arrests have been made, but Bakersfield Police insist someone at that party knows what happened. And they’re working vigilantly to find answers.
Leaving Candis’ family to wait, and do their best to celebrate her life. Her family and friends released blue balloons into the sky with messages of love and birthday wishes written on them. A celebration of the young woman Candis was on her way to becoming.
Her friends, fellow sophomores at Shafter High, recalling some of their favorite things about their friend:
“Candis, she was an amazing person.”
“She made everyone laugh.”
“She was always herself.”
“I know she’s up there just having a blast right now. Because that’s who she was. She was amazing.”
Candis’ family plans to host a car wash at Hitchcocks in Shafter this Saturday to raise money for Candis’ funeral arrangements.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up.
