1 killed, 1 critical following shooting in Delano

UPDATE (July 30): The Kern County Coroner identified the man killed in Friday’s shooting as 22-year-old Delano resident Marco Antonio Alfaro Espinoza.

One other man was hospitalized and listed as critical.

Delano police said one man is in custody following a shooting that left one man dead and another man in critical condition.

Police officials said the shooting happened just after 3:15 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of 12th Avenue.

Delano Police Chief Robert Nevarez said it was a drive-by shooting appears to likely have been gang related.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene the other man was airlifted to a nearby hospital and was said to be “very critical” by Chief Nevarez.

A witness reported hearing five or six shots, police said.

Just before 5 p.m. Chief Nevarez said a suspect is in custody in relation to the shooting.
