One inmate was shot by corrections officers and five others were injured following a riot at a Tehachapi prison Sunday afternoon.
State corrections officials said the riot started at a maximum security facility in the California Correction Institution in Tehachapi on Sunday at around 1:30 p.m. The riot involved as many as 65 inmates. No officers were injured.
A CCI official said officers at the prison fired three total shots during the riot. Two of the shots were warning shots; a third was shot an inmate to stop an attack on another inmate in the prison’s Facility A.
The inmate’s gunshot wound is not life-threatening, officials said. No word on the conditions of the five others injured. It’s not clear what started the riot.
The investigation is ongoing and the facility where the riot took place remains on lockdown.
