The National Guard troops may start moving south towards the U.S./Mexico border as early as tonight.
This move follows President Trump’s increased calls for tougher immigration laws.
“The President has directed that the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security to work with governors to deploy the National Guard to our Southwest border to assist border patrol. The President will be signing a proclamation to that effect today,” said Kristjen Nielsen, the Homeland Security Secretary.
This decision raises concerns about what exactly the troops will be doing, and who will be paying the bill for these controversial measures.
