‘Get out!’: Woman stands up to shopper who allegedly harassed Spanish speakers

National News

A woman was caught on video confronting a woman who yelled at two Spanish-speaking shoppers at a Colorado grocery store and quickly became an Internet sensation.

KDVR reports Linda Dwire was allegedly outraged over two women speaking Spanish in the aisle of the City Market in Rifle and told the women to stop speaking their language. Kamira Trent overheard their conversation and wasn’t having it. She decided to intervene.

“I’m calling the cops. You leave these women alone! Get out!” Trent shouted at the woman.

“You come from a generation — ” Dwire began to say before Trent cut her off.

“No, I do not. I have respect. You do not harass people,” Trent replied.

“You will lose your country,” Dwire said. “You know what, you will lose this country.”

Little did they know they were being recorded.

Trent continued to school the woman as she headed down the aisle. “You do not harass Hispanic women!” she said.

Then Trent took it a step further and called the cops, which arrived at the store and arrested Dwire for two counts of bias-motivated harassment, according to KDVR.

“I mean I was disgusted. I couldn’t believe I was hearing that,” Trent told KDVR during an interview after the incident. “They were scared. They didn’t know really how to react to it. they both tried to walk away from her and she wouldn’t let them walk away.”

Trent told the news stations she has no regrets about intervening and said she hopes the video will inspire others to do the same.

“Speak up. Don’t sit there and let it happen. It’s not ok,” she said.
