Authorities say a Deerfield Beach man stole an ambulance because he needed a ride, WPLG reports.

At about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, someone reported the theft of an ambulance that was parked outside the emergency room of Broward Health North.

Once the ambulance’s GPS tracking system was activated, deputies found 28-year-old Michael Paul driving the missing vehicle near North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Paul later told deputies he stole the ambulance because he needed a car, according to the news station.

He’s being held at North Broward Bureau Jail on a $1,000 bond.
