Catholic leaders call on McCarthy to allow DACA vote

National News

California’s Catholic leadership is calling on Bakersfield congressman and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy to allow a vote on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and provide what they said will be closure for young undocumented immigrants.

NBC News reported McCarthy tried to stop a push within the Republican party to force a vote on DACA.

An open letter by the California Catholic Conference called DACA immigrants “blameless,” and asked McCarthy to use his authority to allow a debate.

The letter was signed by Archbishop Jose Gomez, Bishop Jaime Soto, and Bishop Armando Ochoa.
