Honor Flight Kern County is mourning the loss of a local veteran who died earlier this year.

Orville Archie Stephenson died on May 30 at age 92.

Stephenson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Guam and the USS Wilson.

He was born in Iowa before his family moved to El Monte, California where he met his future wife, Eva Lee Hagan. They married in 1949 and stayed together for 55 years until her death.

Stephenson worked for the Edison Company after the war, before he and his wife moved to Bakersfield where he got a job with the Pacific Bell telephone company.

The two raised three sons in Bakersfield, operated a motorcycle school and worked with the First Presbyterian Church.

A service will be held at First Presbyterian on 17th Street in Bakersfield Friday at 1 p.m.
