A group from New Advances for People with Disabilities spent the morning after the Fourth of July volunteering their time cleaning up trash at The Park at River walk.
Seven special needs adults and two instructor aides from NAPD cleaned up everything from food, to diapers, to clothes.
The group said they want to help make the community look better.
“We brought everyone out to help out cleaning up the community and to show that we care and can make a difference,” instructor aide Christian Taylor said.
The city of Bakersfield Recreation and Parks Department said the park and bathrooms were left a mess adding clients of NAPD were not scheduled to volunteer, but showed up anyway.
The parks department stresses the importance of cleaning up after yourself when you are done at any park.
