A local Walmart employee with an uplifting and positive personality has touched the lives of so many customers, but Wednesday they thought they’d do something uplifting in return.
It came as a total surprise for Kevin Minikwu, an employee at the Walmart Neighborhood Market at Calloway and Olive drives.
“Very heart touching. It’s unbelievable. I really love them, sincerely from the bottom of my heart,” he said.
“For them to come together and to put something together like this. This is something I never thought would happen in a million years,”
Most of the customers surrounding him Wednesday are complete strangers, but they’re some of his biggest fans.
“If I’m having a bad day, sometimes I’ll just come to Walmart just because I hope that he’s here so that I can see him because I know seeing his smile is just going to put me in a good mood,” Cindy Rush said.
Lilly Wright, a customer at the store, says Minikwu’s spirit is infectuous.
“He’s constantly singing and laughing and greeting everybody, just touching your soul consistently regardless of your age, your background, who you are, you have a second, you have a minute, he’ll talk to you and it’s amazing. He’s really a cool guy. We love him,”
And after discovering Minikwu walks to work every day, these fans — and many others — stepped in to help. Walmart gave him a bike, while a group pitched in to raise over $4,000 for him.
“We don’t see this often. We don’t see this a lot and I think to recognize a person like Kevin is huge. You know, a genuine person who has touched a whole community and has brought the whole community together I think is well deserved,” store manager Mauricio Luengas said.
Minikwu is thankful for for people who responded in support of him.
“An individual like me, I never thought that I was affecting people in this type of fashion, but for them to respond in this way, it’s amazing,”
