Raphael Stroud is a Bay Area native born in Oakland, California and growing up in Solano County. He’s a 2012 graduate of St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School in Vallejo, and continued his education at San Jose State University, earning a bachelors degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. While there he was executive editor for the school’s award-winning newspaper, The Spartan Daily.
While looking for an internship, Stroud became a freelance content producer for NBC Bay Area in San Jose, writing stories and editing video. Stroud kept working NBC Bay Area until 2017, when he was hired to produce 17 News at 5. He has been nominated for three EMMYS, awarded one in 2018 for smaller market newscasts. He also was part of the production team for a newscast in 2018 that was awarded a Golden Mike by the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California. In 2020 he took the opportunity to help edit and update 17’s Homicide Tracker and now covers homicides for 17 News.
