Nora Sofía is a bilingual journalist. She joined Telemundo Valle Central in 2021 as a news producer, and now anchors the evening newscasts. She was born and raised in Guanajuato, México, and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 12.
Her interest in media started when she was eight years old. She’d read newspapers and religiously watch local newscasts. Her mother was her accomplice as she also had a keen interest in the media industry.
At the age of 17, Nora became a Youth Journalist for the South Kern Sol Newspaper in Kern County where she covered health care, education, and immigration. After graduating from high school, she moved to San José to pursue her passion in communications.
In 2019, she graduated from San José State University with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a minor in Spanish Literature. During college, she wrote for the SJSU’s student newspaper ‘The Spartan Daily” and was also a reporter for the campus student newscast “Update News”. She also interned for Telemundo 48 KSTS in the Bay Area as part of their ‘Telemundo Responde’ team. She then joined NBC Bay Area KNTV as part of their Assignment Desk team.
A year after, she joined the Office of Mayor Sam Liccardo in San José as his Media Relations Assistant where she managed media inquiries at the regional, state, and national levels. She also assisted with public relations and digital marketing.
Aside from news and communications, Nora is a passionate Mexican folklórico dancer. She has been dancing since she was nine years old and has performed various times for the Golden State Warriors’ half-time show. She was also part of the Super Bowl 50’s halftime show in Santa Clara.
Nora Sofía loves spending time with her loved ones, traveling, and trying new food. She’s also a loyal rock music fan.
