Christian Galeno

Christian Galeno joined KGET 17 News July 2021.

Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Christian is glad to be reporting in Bakersfield and to be close to his family and childhood home.

He attended California State University, Long Beach. He was the first in his family to graduate from college — a very proud achievement for his parents who are immigrants from Mexico.

While at Long Beach State, Christian held internships with NBC Los Angeles as well as KVEA Telemundo 52, WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina.

He is bilingual and a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).

He previously worked at the NBC/CBS affiliate in Yuma, Arizona as anchor, producer and reporter. While living in the Desert Southwest, Christian covered numerous visits by former President Donald Trump, the border and immigration crisis, elections and even how the pandemic affected a small rural desert community.

That’s where he earned his first Emmy nomination for a story on the lives of transexual sex workers across the border and the violence and gender inequality that they face.

While not chasing the latest headlines, Christian stays active by hiking, swimming and running – he has completed the L.A. Marathon — as well as eating his way through all the taco spots that Bakersfield can offer.
