Alex Fisher

Alex Fisher joined the 17News team in May 2016. He co-anchors 17News@Sunrise with Maddie Janssen weekday mornings from 5 to 7 a.m.

Fisher was born and raised in Bakersfield and is pleased to be back in his hometown reporting and anchoring the news.

“I am part of a team that is more like a family,” Fisher says. “Since many of us have local roots, we pride ourselves being from this unique community.”

He attended Rosedale North Elementary School, Freedom Middle School and graduated from Liberty High School in 2012.

He graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Rhetoric.

During his time at Pepperdine, he was actively involved with the campus television station, NewsWaves 32, as a producer, anchor and reporter. He was also the assignment editor for the campus newspaper, The Graphic. He also spent a summer in Washington, D.C., interning at WRC-TV, NBC4.

While at Pepperdine, Fisher studied abroad in Heidelberg, Germany for an academic year. While abroad, he traveled to 16 different countries, immersing himself in different cultures. He has since visited more than two dozen countries as he continues to travel around the world. Fisher says he enjoys what Kern County has to offer and enjoys walking around to the local coffee shops in downtown Bakersfield or exploring new eateries around the county.
