Florham Park, NJ (Sports Network) - In need of depth at wide receiver, the New York Jets have brought back a familiar face.

On Tuesday, the Jets were awarded wide receiver Braylon Edwards after the team claimed him off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks, bringing the former- Michigan standout back to the club where he had his most recent success.

Over 28 games with New York, Edwards hauled in 88 passes for 1,445 yards and 11 touchdowns, but has seen his production slip since leaving the club for the San Francisco 49ers following the 2010 campaign.

Knee surgery limited Edwards in his only season with the 49ers, catching 15 passes for 181 yards before being released prior to postseason play.

He joined the Seahawks in 2012, but only caught eight balls for 74 yards and a touchdown before once again being let go.

Edwards has a chance to make an immediate impact with New York, which has seen its wide receiving core diminish throughout the season.

The Jets lost Santonio Holmes for the year to a foot injury back in Week 4, and this past week rookie Stephen Hill suffered a sprained knee. It is not known if Hill will be able to suit up for Monday night's contest against Tennessee.

Drafted No.3 overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2005 NFL Draft, the 29- year-old Edwards has recorded 349 receptions for 5,397 yards and 40 touchdowns over eight seasons.
