Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - The Jacksonville Jaguars have reeled in David Caldwell as the club's new general manager.

The Florida Times-Union reported on Tuesday evening that the two sides have finalized a contract. Caldwell, who previously served as director of player personnel for the Atlanta Falcons, will replace Gene Smith, who was fired on Dec. 31.

According to the paper, Caldwell was one of only four men interviewed by Jags owner Shad Khan for the post. The others were new Arizona GM Steve Keim, Tom Gamble from the 49ers, and Marc Ross of the New York Giants.

Caldwell leaves a Falcons club which finished with the best record in the NFC at 13-3 and won the NFC South. He will be tasked with turning around a Jaguars team which finished a franchise-worst 2-14 last season and hasn't made the playoffs since 2007.
