Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees officially announced on Friday the signing of infielder Kevin Youkilis to a one-year contract.

No financial terms were released, but an earlier report from the New York Daily News stated the deal was worth $12 million.

Youkilis is expected to fill in at third base for Alex Rodriguez, who will miss the start of the upcoming season while recovering from hip surgery.

The 33-year-old Youkilis split 2012 with the Red Sox and White Sox. In 122 combined games, he batted .235 with 19 home runs and 60 RBI.

A three-time All-Star, Youkilis is a career .283 hitter who has clubbed 148 homers, driven in 610 runs and drawn 531 walks.
