Murfreesboro, TN (Sports Network) - Dwight Dasher threw two touchdowns and
rushed for another three scores as he led the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders to
a 48-21 victory over the Florida International Golden Panthers in Sun Belt
Conference action at Floyd Stadium.
Dasher rushed for 178 yards for MTU (6-3, 4-1 SBC), and added another 182
yards through the air in the win. D.D. Kyles contributed 110 rushing yards on
22 totes.
As for the Golden Panthers (2-7, 2-4), they were paced by Kendall Berry, who
rushed fro 103 yards and three touchdowns in the losing effort.
The Blue Raiders wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Dasher broke
free for a 70-yard touchdown run, giving MTU an early 7-0 edge.
Less than two minutes later the Blue Raiders pushed their lead to 14-0 when
Dasher hit Sancho McDonald with a 27-yard touchdown pass.
MTU continued its impressive first quarter when Alan Gendreau connected on a
33-yard field goal.
Dasher once again found the end zone on a long run, as the quarterback broke
free for a 67-yard touchdown scamper early in the second frame.
MTU's relentless attack continued midway through the second quarter when
Dasher connected with Patrick Honeycutt for a nine-yard touchdown.
The Golden Panthers finally got on the scoreboard in the final seconds of the
first half, as Berry scored on a two-yard run.
FIU cut its deficit to 20 points earlier in the second half when Berry found
the end zone again, this time on a five-yard run.
The Golden Panthers continued to claw their way back late in the third
quarter, as Berry found the end zone again, this time scoring on a four-yard
run.
MTU would not allow FIU to come any closer however, as the Blue Raiders scored
the final 10 points of the contest.
Dasher added a one-yard touchdown run seconds into the fourth quarter and that
was followed by a 42-yard touchdown run by Benjamin Cunningham with less than
two minutes left in regulation.
