Air Force vs. Army Game Recap
USAFA, CO (Sports Network) - The Air Force Falcons scored 28 unanswered,
second-half points to beat the Army Black Knights 35-7 in a non-conference
game at Falcon Stadium.
Jared Tew ran for 102 yards for Air Force (6-4), which has now won three of
its last four starts. Asher Clark picked up 89 yards on the ground and scored
two touchdowns. Quarterback Tim Jefferson threw for 131 yards and a touchdown
for the Falcons.
Trent Steelman ran for 102 yards for Army (3-6) and scored the Black Knights'
only touchdown. Army has now lost three straight.
Air Force took a 7-0 lead four minutes into the first quarter on Anthony
Wright's 88-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Steelman responded for Army with a 42-yard touchdown run late in the period,
leaving the academies tied at 7-7 at the break following a scoreless second
quarter.
The Falcons regained the lead early in the third quarter when Clark ran 36
yards for a score.
Jefferson found Kevin Fogler with a 73-yard scoring pass late in the third
quarter to extend the Air Force lead to 21-7, then ran for a two-yard
touchdown early in the fourth.
Clark scored his second touchdown of the game on an eight-yard run with three
minutes left in the game.
The game was part of the Commander-in-Chief Trophy series, a round robin among
the three service academies. Navy is already assured of claiming the trophy
for the seventh straight year. The Midshipmen have already defeated Air Force
and will win the trophy outright with a victory over Army on December 12. If
Army defeats Navy, the Midshipmen, as the current holders of the trophy, will
retain it.
Prior to the game, a moment of silence was held in honor of the shooting
victims at Ford Hood. Flags on the Air Force Academy campus were lowered to
half staff.
