BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Kern County Fair is a little over five months away, and this year, community members can expect some exciting changes.
The 2018 Kern County Fair runs Sept. 19 through Sept. 30. Fairgoers can expect lots of live music, food and now a $10 fast pass option as an alternative to waiting in line for rides.
Michael Olcott, CEO of the Kern County Fair says Kern County's carnival company tested the fast pass program at the state fair last year and it proved successful among patrons, so the company rolled it out to larger fairs like Kern's.
There will be a separate fast pass line for each ride, according to fair organizers.
Olcott says the fair is also hosting a monster truck show in the Coors Grandstand Arena on the first weekend of the fair, along with Lucha libre wrestling and Brad's Reptile World.
Also new this year at Kern County's farm, students will have an opportunity to grow vegetables and learn about the importance of our ag industry. 17's Mary Kate Paquette previewed the new edible garden at its groundbreaking ceremony.
