New development plans for East Hills Mall renovation, new southwest shopping center

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Development around town is further underway after the planning commission approved the next step for two developments in Bakersfield.

East Hills Mall Update

The Bakersfield Planning Commission approved new developments for the planned renovation at the East Hills Mall at its Thursday night meeting.

Developers C&C Properties and Mark-Chris Investments will call the shopping complex the "City Lights Shopping Center."

Last night, they asked the city's planning commission for approval of their comprehensive sign plan, which calls for a series of  tall pylon signs to be placed along Highway 178 and Mall View Road.

The planning commission approved the sign plan.

Developers have not said who will become tenants at the shopping center.

The green light was also given by planning commissioners in another step forward for a new shopping development in southwest Bakersfield.

The 93,000 square-foot complex would feature a mixture of shops and restaurants located at Stockdale Highway and Allen Road.

Developers were seeking approval to downsize the building footprint to make more room for parking spaces.

That request was approved.
