Saturday, thousands of Americans across the country will pause to place Christmas wreaths on the graves of every U.S. Veteran. "Wreaths Across America" is a tradition that dates back to 1992 and the first wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
With some 350 veterans now buried at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, the Breakfast Rotary Club decided it's time we honor our deceased veterans here at home.
"I think it's going to be just overwhelming," said Mary Jo Paek, co-chair of the Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary. "Overwhelming to see all those wreaths on the graves. And remember, when you place a wreath on one of those graves, we ask you to just stop and have a short conversation with that person, to thank them for their service, that has given us all freedom."
The wreath laying ceremony is Saturday, Dec. 12 at 8:30a.m. at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, located just off of Highway 58 on Bear Mountain Boulevard. The public is invited to attend and help place wreaths at the graves of our veterans.
You are asked to arrive no later than 8 a.m.
