A local hero is headed home for the holidays. Lance Corporal Joshua Brubaker is a double amputee. He lost his legs in a roadside explosion in Afghanistan in June. He's been recovering and undergoing therapy at Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland.
While the Wounded Heroes Fund has been busy helping build a wheelchair-accessible apartment off of his parents home, Brubaker and his family recently received word he can return home this weekend. Even though construction is still in progress, his dad is already calling this the best Christmas ever.
"I think he's going to be overwhelmed. I don't think he anticipates and I don't think my wife anticipates the support the community has shown all veterans and especially the wounded veterans coming home and stuff like that. I think they are going to be overwhelmed," said Joshua's father, William Brubaker.
William says his son, Josh, has no idea that he's making the community aware of his homecoming and he's hoping a crowd will greet him.
His flight lands at Meadows Field airport at 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The public is urged to give Lance Corporal Joshua Brubaker a hero's welcome.
