ginny, why are you saying the City should suck it up and label the house a hazard? As the article states, this house is located in the County of Kern's jurisdiction. The City has no authority there.

Why don't all the neighbors get together & clean it up. It would be to thier advantage to get rid of rats, mice & bugs!

My guess is the family threw the lady's stuff out and rented the house as quick as possible. It may have been a matter of needing the money to help defray the cost of the nursing home. Still, it is not acceptable to leave the trash there. You would think that the family or the new tenant would care. We really don't know all of the facts and this may very well be a tough situation for the family to deal with. I would hope that there is a group of volunteers that will help clean up the trash. The people of Bakersfield are good at lending a helping had and I would not be surprised if they came to the aid of the neighborhood.

My bet is that the elderly woman who was placed in the nusing home is probably the legal owner, and if so, just how an they expect her to pay fines or see that the property is cleaned up? Seems to me that her family and the current residents are the ones who should be held responsible and the current resident should be the primary one since they are accumulating the trash to the point it's at now. Time for the City to suck it up, label the house as a hazard, force the renter out then clean out everything and then take the home by any legal way.

Sure fine these people which will never pay the fines, the trash that make the trash is what needs to be removed!
