A woman was hospitalized following a deputy-involved shooting in east Bakersfield.

The incident started as a pursuit, that ended on Virginia Avenue, west of Oswell Street.

Sheriff's deputies say around 2:30 Friday morning, they spotted a woman driving a stolen van.

When they tried to stop her, she took off.

They say she rammed two patrol cars and that's when one deputy shot her, but the woman continued driving to Kern Medical Center's E.R.

When she got out of the van, a K-9 bit her on the leg.

Deputies then arrested her.

She's said to be in stable condition.

CrystalStorm, 2 cities & the same thing happened????? What's the full story? Why would they point a gun at a 6 month old, was the baby threatening them with a bottle or pacifier?

Anybody remember that in East Bakersfield, when being arrested by a crooked police officer who called me names to charge me for grand theft auto on a cheap pinto? My new car fully paid for was parked in front of my home, fully registered, fully insured. What crooked cops!! They did that to me in Oxnard too, while with my 6 month old in my own fully owned car, it didn't keep 'em from pointing guns at my kids!!

Wow It sounds like the crooked police are trying to drive "her" out of town too. I wonder what she knows?

A vehicle is a deadly weapon. The Deputy had every right to shoot her, lawfully and morally. He probably saved an innocent person from being killed by her theiving stupidity. I can't wait to read about her defense when she goes to court

Here is some more info from the paper that shall relain nameless, no wonder they shot at her. she made several attempts to force deputies off the road and ultimately rammed a 1998 Mazda mini van into the deputy's patrol car, sheriff's deputies reported The incident began at 12:25 a.m. Friday when 30-year-old Xavier Reyes told deputies his mini van was stolen at the California Inn, 1030 Wible Road. Reyes said a shotgun and ammunition were inside the van Deputies walked up to the van and contacted Lesly. She started the van and drove away, almost striking a deputy She reached speeds of up to 80 mph in east Bakersfield and made several attempts to force deputies off the road, deputies said. She rammed into Rutledge's patrol car and disabled it Deputies recovered a shotgun and ammunition from the Mazda, deputies reported. Lesly was the sole occupant of the vehicle during the pursuit. She will be booked into jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, grand theft auto, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and recklessly evading, deputies said Deputy Brandon Rutledge, a four-year veteran, fired two shots at Lesly at Virginia Avenue and Layne Street (just west of Oswell Street), striking her once in the upper body, but she backed into a second patrol car and then drove to KMC where the pursuit ended, deputies said I think this explains why they shot at her.

I thought it was policy that a cop can not shoot at a moving car, except under special, desperate circumstances where the officer's life is in immediate and clear danger. Guess I was wrong, but I still think shooting at her/the car was dangerous and reckless at best, unnecessary at least. Ramming a cop car is not a reason to kill somebody. And before any of you go off on me, I am fully on the side of law enforcement, she needs to spend a LONG time in jail, and an officer has every right to protect him/herself.

Jackc you are obviously an idiot, she was running away and I work in emergengy medicine and I am thankful that the police stopped her before there was a hostage situation. I will tell ya what Jack when she gets out of jail with a slap on the wrist why don't you move her into your house with your family since you are so worried about her, as a matter of fact start a criminal commune, for I am sure that if they just received hugs from you they would never commit another crime.
