A former student has told Bakersfield Police she was sexually assaulted by a teacher when she attended the Catholic high school in 1976-77, according to a statement by the police department late Tuesday afternoon.

The girl told police she was 16 when she was assaulted in an off-campus location, according to the police statement.

“The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for anyone who may have been a victim, knows of other victims or has any information regarding this case to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111 or Detective Rex Davenport at 326-3559,” the statement said.

A police spokesman, and a spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of Fresno, declined to name the teacher. The police spokesman wouldn’t say why the woman took so long to make the allegation.

“In accordance with applicable protocol, an internal investigation has been opened,” said Richard E. Sexton, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the diocese. “The matter was referred to the Bakersfield Police Department and the employee has been placed on administrative leave off campus pending the investigation.”

“We are unable to provide further details or other information at this time, as the matter is under investigation and to protect the good name of all parties, Sexton said.

Look here, little girl, your observations that no one here was molested is totally misconceived. You think the drug and alcohol problem exists and multiplying is because we are happy and live well-adjusted lives? That no one here has regrets? After 36-years your friend's wanting to “save” others is totally ludicrous. Your friend and the Alliance Against Family Violence do not realize that what they are asking is for another witch hunt. Our current District Attorney made her mark 30-years ago by prosecuting 42 “witches”. Forty-two were later exonerated after serving prison time, but those 42-lives remain ruined. Lisa Green still maintains those "witches" are guilty. The alleged transgression your friend claims happened outside the school, indicating to me she was a willing participant. Prosecuting this individual will not solve her shame if she keeps reliving it. Twelve steps programs solve little because they rely on the victim’s helplessness, vulnerability and having to relive that shame. Your friend needs to do a lot of Forgiving and Releasing. Three institutions that COULD HELP your friend are, Unity Church, Religious Science, and Agape International Church in Culver City. But that is only 20% of the battle. The other 80%, your friend has to do herself. . . . Forgiveness and Releasing. There is no “magic bullet”. Forgiveness and Releasing.

You people have obviously never been molested. How dare all of you judge this victim. She has been tormented all this time. Her life has been a mess because of the shame she has carried. Yes, I know her. And, yes, this happened. Wait until other victims of this man pop-up. And, no, it is not because it's related to the Catholic Church. There has been no attorney on her part, nor any desire to seek a settlement (if that's what you're inferring). She has only NOW gained the courage to speak up. Shame on you for judging her! You have no clue. I just hope that teacher didn't ruin too many other women's/girl's lives.

Child molestation case that allegedly happened 36-years ago? Why now (my voice of reason asks)? Isn’t there statutes of limitations for this? I think they’ve raised the bar on this one. . . . Another child molestation witch hunt, which is right up district attorney Lisa Green’s alley.

After 36 years of not reporting this, if indeed this really took place. The woman should arrested for being stupid.

While I question why this 'student' waited so long before reporting this molestation, because this is tied to the Catholic Church, I am not all that surprised. My question to this woman is, has she contacted the legal firm on the east coast that has been successful, natonwide, in investigating and winning these cases, if they find they are valid. If not, then I would have to say...foul on her part.

I'm very confused. 1976? That was 36 years ago, which means the "victim" is now 52 years old. And she's just now reporting this?!?!?!?! Something's amiss.
