One day after Representative Anthony Weiner's shocking confession...
"I've exchanged messages and photos of explicit nature with about six women," Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-New York, said.
Many Americans are thinking, not another one. Weiner is just one of several politicians in recent weeks under fire for inappropriate relationships, which begs the question, why do powerful men cheat?
"People begin to treat you like you're special and you begin to believe that you really are," Dean Haddock, psychologist, said. "That kind of power can be intoxicating and on an impulse I think they begin to act out on some of those."
Perhaps it was impulse that led Weiner to Twitter a half-naked photo of himself to a Seattle woman last week.
"Once I realized I had posted it to Twitter I panicked," Weiner said. "I took it down and said I've been hacked I then continued with that story, which was a hugely regrettable mistake."
Weiner admitted he used social media to exchange messages with women while married. Bakersfield marriage counselor Joshua Haddock said he sees it more often in his practice.
"Our younger clients have been well desensitized to those types of things that modern technology is just technology and it doesn't really matter," Haddock said.
But does it matter? Weiner said he never had any physical contact with these women. But is sending a lewd photo still cheating?
"It's cheating in every way as far as I'm concerned, he should resign," said one Bakersfield resident.
"If I did that with my girlfriend she would break up with me in a heartbeat," said another.
But others said they don't care about Weiner's behavior, they just want him to work on issues that matter.
