Public health officials are reminding parents to get their soon-to-be seventh grade children immunized against whooping cough.

In 2010, Governor Brown signed a law requiring a whooping cough booster before middle school students can re-enter school. All incoming seventh graders must provide proof they are up to date with whooping cough booster shots before starting school.

In 2010, more than nine thousand pertussis cases were reported in California.
