Local veterans are demanding action, following reports confidential medical files were removed from the Veterans Affair's outpatient clinic in Bakersfield.
Vietnam veteran Manuel Nunez told 17 News yesterday that other veterans told him the files in question contained social security numbers, birth dates and other vital information.
The Bakersfield Californian reported that a security guard saw a VA doctor with the files stashed in a magazine and after the guard confiscated them, the doctor grabbed his arm.
Still no comment from the VA in Los Angeles but Bakersfield Congressman Kevin McCarthy has launched his own investigation.
"Here are individuals who risked their lives to protect our freedom. I think they have the right as veterans to make sure their records are protected so anytime there's an allegation like this I take them all seriously," said McCarthy.
Congressman McCarthy says he's meeting with the under secretary of the VA today to get answers.
