Bakersfield police say a teenage boy accidentally killed himself Friday with a handgun. Investigators were called to the 13900 block of San Lazaro Street in southwest Bakersfield regarding a gunshot victim. Officers found 15-year-old James Christian Peterson dead from a gunshot wound.
Investigators believe Peterson retrieved a key to the secured handgun without his parent's knowledge and inadvertently discharged the gun. The round struck the 15-year-old in the head. There are no signs of foul play or any criminal conduct.
Police say their investigation is continuing.
