Two children riding a bicycle have been hospitalized after being hit by a car.

The accident happened around 6:30 Sunday night on Price Street near South Union Avenue in southeast Bakersfield. The CHP says the two kids were riding a bike together when they collided with a pickup truck, receiving minor to moderate injuries.

Officers say there was not a stop sign at the intersection. Residents in the area say not having stop signs in the neighborhood is a big problem.

"A lot of people don't know how to drive in this neighborhood. There's a lot of stop signs that need to be put up," said neighbor Frank Sopko. "In the last year, two of my trucks have been hit."

Sopko says the county has been contacted about putting up stop signs at nearby intersections and he said officials told him it may take a few weeks.

It's not clear if the driver or the kids were at fault in this case.

Stop signs won't help. People in this town do what thay want. There are stop signs near my house that people run ALL THE TIME. Not only that but they speed through like it's a freeway. This is a residential neighborhood, NOT a freeway aholes!
