Two California Highway Patrol officers in Kern County are at the center of a sexual assault investigation.

At about 12:30 p.m. Monday, a Kern County Sheriff's deputy was dispatched to southeast Bakersfield for a report of a possible sexual assault. When the deputy arrived, he says the woman claimed she had been sexually assaulted early Friday morning at her home. She said her attackers were officers with a Kern County Law Enforcement Agency.

Detectives say the woman told them a Kern County Sheriff's deputy stopped her around 2:00 a.m. Friday, in the area of Merle Haggard Drive and Highway 99.

The deputy suspected her of driving under the influence and requested the California Highway Patrol respond to the scene to conduct a DUI investigation.

"The victim said CHP did not arrest her, but followed her in their patrol car home to her residence in southeast Bakersfield, where ultimately, she says, she was sexually assaulted by at least one of the officers," said Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood.

The CHP says it is cooperating with the investigation and the officers are still on duty, but off of road patrol. Sheriff's Detectives say no arrests have been made, and their investigation continues.
