An update to a story that gained national attention this week.

All 96 turtles that spilled onto a local freeway have been adopted.

The turtles were in the hands of local rescuers after toppling from a truck Tuesday evening on Highway 58.

The Kern County Turtle and Tortoise Club believes the turtles, a species known as red-earred sliders, which are non-native to California, were probably headed to a Bay Area restaurant.

Leonard Plunkett, who was caring for the turtles, says he has been inundated with calls. He adopted out the last of the turtles Thursday night.

The red-earred sliders are not native in Caif but is an invasive species. Goes to show our tax money is being wasted at the ag inspection stations these turtles had to pass through before getting to where they were droped on the highway.
