All but one southbound lanes of Interstate 5 were closed Tuesday morning by a multiple-fatality crash near Gorman.

The CHP expected the roadway would remain at least partially closed until about 9:30 a.m.

Emergency workers landed a medical helicopter on the Interstate around 5:40 a.m.

L.A. County firefighters reported three people dead, two people seriously injured, and four others with less serious wounds.

Drivers from the Kern County area were being advised to take an alternate route: Highway 58 east to southbound Highway 14, then back onto Interstate 5.
