Sheriff's detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a toddler in east Bakersfield.

We're told parents called 911 from a home in the 1100 block of Webster Street Wednesday afternoon, but ended up driving their son to Kern Medical Center on their own.

The boy was later pronounced dead.

"We don't know what led up to his death or how the boy died. A determination will be made when the autopsy is done on the cause and manner of death," said Ray Pruitt, Kern County Sheriff's Department.

We're told the hospital identified the toddler's death as suspicious and contacted the Sheriff's Department.
