Three Kern County 5th graders took top awards at the California State History Day contest in Riverside over the weekend.

Madeline Abernathy of Laurelglen School and Emma McNellis of Endeavor School were co-champions.

Jessica Jensen of Endeavor School was the state runner-up.

The students selected, designed, and researched their own projects under the National History Day theme of Revolution, Reaction, Reform.
