I think the biggest problem is nobody KNOWS how to eat healthy. Most of these people on food stamps, including those not on food stamps, probably do not consider daily fiber, protein and other requirements when preparing a meal. Nutrition education in high school should be put into the districts and maybe when people sign up for food assistance.

I agree with Anonymous, I think that is how it should be done. You should go to a special store and they will give you your allowed amount of food for two weeks or a month or whatever. I don't think it should be a pick and choose type of deal. Like I said before, food stamps are to help people get back on their feet. If you aren't wanting to eat what healthy food is being provided to you, than perhaps you really aren't that hungry?

I'm a vocal critic of the welfare state in general, I just want to say that up front. I certainly dont wish to advocate anything which will prevent those of able body and mind from choosing self-determination over the slavery of an enabling bureaucracy. That said, this is ridiculous and should serve as a lesson to those who have been seduced by the benevolent slaveholders. When you accept entitlements from the government, you relinquish control. You are no longer free to make your own choices and live your own life. While one should not be putting it in a baby bottle, everyone deserves to, should they see fit, enjoy a refreshing soft drink (Im a Dr Pepper man myself) in the midst of a long day. Sure, government can and will provide you with the essentials it takes to sustain life, but if they are controlling all that you are, is that really living?

Welfare doesn't care if these people sell their food stamps, I have reported someone selling theirs for 50 cents on the dollar! I call and gave them their name and the buyers name, when I was going to give them their address the person stopped me and told me they didn't have the staff to follow up on these cases so it would be a waste of time to even bother! This person selling was a meth user!

If CA would enforce new laws on welfare and food stamps and start cutting some of these people off, maybe this state wouldn't have 32% of the people on welfare in the nation living here! If something isn't done in the next 20 years this state will have over half the people on welfare, then where is all the money going to come from to support the program?

If you work for a living and have to feed a family, sodas and junk food are a luxury If you receive food stamps, it's probably a staple. I see what the teens eat in high school. They toss the fruit and vegetables and eat the junk. Of course the free lunch helps to stretch the food stamp budget. Eating habits start at home and as another commenter said, look what is in a cart when the shopper uses their food cards or stamps. It is easy to spot someone that gets free food. The system is abused in so many ways. I have seen food stamps on Craigslist. The latest one was someone wanted to trade food stamps for weed. Thank goodness for he ability to flag. The person probably just went to the street for his trade. If they are up in arms about having junk food taken away, so be it. Get a job and stop having children.
