Democratic support in Sacramento is swinging behind supervisor Leticia Perez in her bid for the 16th District Senate seat vacated by Michael Rubio.

Perez was sworn into her county position a little more than two months ago. Now, Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg is backing Perez for the position recently vacated by Perez's mentor Michael Rubio.

Perez has the support of most of the Senate's Democratic leadership.

The Sacramento Bee notes it will likely be a three-way race between Perez, fellow Democrat Fran Florez and Hanford Republican Andy Vidak.

If Perez wins, then somone has to be appointed to her seat or another election will have to be held. It would be cost effective if she resigns her current position so someone can be elected to it. But her resigning will not happen because she may not win the senate seat.

I"m a democrat & I do not support her. I heard her speak & she's terribale. Do not agree with whom she is married to either. When these people want to be elected to an office & win they should finish thier trem of office.
