The California Highway Patrol says Interstate 5 over the Grapevine is closed in both directions due to snow.

Drivers who need to travel to the Los Angeles area can use Highway 58 east to Highway 14 south and back to southbound Interstate 5.

There's no estimate on when I-5 will reopen.  For the latest highway information, you can call Cal-Trans at 800-GAS-ROAD.

The 101 route to LA is 283 mile when the 58 route is 156! The problem with the 101 is mudslides closing the road that they seem to forget to broadcast over the news sometimes for a few hours after the fact!

Sure take the coast route if they don't mind driving twice as far or fly if they can afford the cost, one can fly half way across the country for the cost to fly out of Bakersfield and then they need a ride when they get there which is over priced! Been traveling back and forth to LA on business for the last 40 years, take 58 when it's open!

Travelers can also go to LA via the coast route down 101. Or they can take a flight out of BFL. Typical KGET reporting.
