Small town of Allensworth celebrates 104 years

More than a century after it was founded, the tiny town of Allensworth, just north of Kern County, will draw hundreds of visitors this weekend for its annual re-dedication. Allensworth was the first town in California to be founded by African Americans.

Now as I recall while visiting in the area a few times one of the homes would have their still out in their driveway cooking away as I drove by!

Murph56, I lived in Allensworth for eleven years untill it was bought by the state as a state park. No one made moonshine in their driveways. That was too much work, they drove to Sun Rise City to buy their wine. After Sun Rise City was shut down they had to drive to Earlimart. I'm wondering if the state restored the motel/brothel that was in town in it's early years to keep the retoration authentic..
