As the sun goes down on Black Friday shoppers, local retailers are hoping you saved enough energy and cash to shop local this weekend.

Now, it's time to shop small.

Small Business Saturday is held the Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
"We bring what the corporate stores can't to Bakersfield," said Chris Ludwig, who owns House of Talula in downtown Bakersfield. She says independent retailers offer a more personal shopping experience, away from the crowds at big box stores.
"We know people's names, their sizes. We try to keep it really personal," she continued.
It's one of the perks of shopping local. Kerry Ryan is the owner of Action Sports. He says he knows his customers as soon as they walk in the door.
"You go, 'Hey Jim, Hey Bill, how you doing?' We already have their best interest at heart. There's a lot of trust already in place," said Ryan.
Economists say small businesses are the backbone of our community. When you shop local, most of the money stays local.
"We sponsor a lot of local events personally. The big boxes cant do that," said Ryan.
"They're corporate. They can't sponsor every school's jog-a-thon. They don't sponsor the pie runs. We do all that," he continued.
