The Sheriff's Department and school administrators quashed rumors of a student hit list for the campuses of Standard Middle School and North High Tuesday.

The Sheriff's Department received its first anonymous report of a possible upcoming shooting at Standard Middle School Wednesday evening.

That was followed by a flood of calls from other concerned parents as the rumors spread and was augmented on several social media sites, a Sherriff's watch commander told 17 News early Tuesday.

The threat eventually grew to include North High School.

"Deputies located the juveniles at the source of the rumors and determined that the reports of a 'hit list' and upcoming shooting on the school campus were not true," the Sheriff's Department reported in a news release. "Deputies exhausted all investigative leads in this case and no credible threats to Standard Middle School were substantiated."

Deputies reported they didn't plan on pursuing criminal charges.

I have had kids at North High for over 6 years. Three kids just a couple years apart-so my experience with North High is lengthy. Each of the three are different from class clown know it all to GATE student extrordinaire. When the had the recent "bomb scare" calls SUPPOSEDLY went out to parents and guardians etc to come retrirve their kids at the school. North patted themselves on the back for a job well done. Problem is, it didn't happen that way. I NEVER received a call....my husband NEVER got the call...my father in-law NEVER got the call. We were all available and had our phones with us at the time. Instead, NHS contacted one of my other sons....he was 5th on the emergency list. He was 19 when he got the call about his 15 yr old brother being in the midst of the fiasco. Great job North High ? You are joking ! A friend of mine called me and let me know and yes-she found out via social media-had time to call KCSD and verify the situation and call me and any other parents because SHE ALSO KNOWS NORTH HIGH HISTORY OF DISORGANIZATION AND COVERING THEIR BUTTS. I would like to say that in the last 2 months I have received 9 phone calls from North High pushing their yearbook sales. "Last chance ! Order your yearbook"....yes 9....NINE calls because they want my $$$ for their overpriced yearbook. My understanding is that there was at least one student suspended for the "hit list" fiasco. Bottom line is this-North High is first and foremost with covering their own butts. Once they are sure they have done that, then they will attempt to keep our kids safe. Today at school, NOT ONE TEACHER spoke of "the incident". Administration DID NOT ADDRESS IT IN ANY WAY to the students ! Guess we just pretend it never happened ?? Yup-North high admin mentality hard at work there. Do you think some of the kids were kinda worried about this ? Yeah-they were. Do you think at the very least Admin could have "manned up" and made a brief announcement stating if any student had questions or co

I fore see Valley Oaks and Other charter schools and possible some private schools enrollment increasing in the near furture. Not to say anywhere is safe anymore from the unstable indiviuals who are commiting these terrible acts. We as parents needto address the issue of bullying and send more time with our kids and put the eletronic babysitters away. What ever happen to going to the park with your kids or even just in the backyard and playing catch or a game of basketball.

The sherrif's dept traced the rumor to some juveniles, but it's an unfounded threat so no action will be taken? Sounds like the anti-terrorist act could be used to charge the juveniles if they were found to be the ones to start the rumor. If the sherrif didn't confront the juveniles yesterday there might have been some shooting at the school today.
