A proud day for the Bakersfield Police Department, as several officers were promoted Friday. Friends and family shared the moment as Police Chief Bill Rector conducted the ceremony.
Among those promoted was Officer Dennis Eddy, who is now a Senior Officer. Eddy lost his leg due to wounds he suffered in a shootout with a known gang member. He beat the odds and returned to work months after the shooting.
For him, this promotion means the world. "Oh, it's special. I mean it's one of those things that you look at when you start your career. You plan on progressing through your career and you make a step up and either way it's great experience," Eddy said.
Also among the promoted is Mary Degeare, who acts as one of the spokespersons for the department. She rises from detective to sergeant.
Congratulations to all of those who were promoted.
