The fate of Governor Jerry Brown's tax initiative hit close to home last night. If the tax increase measure fails, K-through-12 education will get hit for billions more in budget cuts.

That was the topic of discussion at the Fruitvale School District. All employees not represented by unions - the administration, management, and support staff - have agreed to budget now for anticipated work furloughs and have the lost pay deducted out of their paychecks over a 12 month period, rather than deeper deductions over a shorter period of time.

The district is talking with its two unions representing teachers and classified employees to see how they want to deal with furloughs if they are needed.

First Jerry Brown's tax is an increase not to extend the any tax we pay now. Second Jerry Brown will use any increase he might get out of use to just turn around give to some welfare program or pet project not the school unless it's to the so called dream act,or the so called act that gives our kids the shaft! Third if the school system would require the teachers to start teaching would be a big help, setting at their desk while the students teach themselves and having their parent helping them with the rest when they get home is getting old! So yes teachers now days are high priced baby setters. To prove this, how many 18 years olds now days do you folks know that can spell simple words, do basic math or even know how to read something and understand it when their done? We are voting NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well bakerbasco, "deep thinker", I do enjoy Ralph as so many other people in Bakersfield and the surrounding area. Sounds like you have a problem with a black conservative on the radio. I notice you didn't jump on Jaz McKay. You and your ilk in the CTA wanted all that hope and change drivel and you got it. Now deal with the fallout. From the last line of your post it sounds like you're engaged in an expensive babysitting service and based on the results of the product you put out that would be accurate.

I agree with ginny 100%, I will be voting NO so will my wife, I do have worked most of my life, volunteered as a boy scout leader, volunteered at the schools when needed, volunteered to watch a group of boys at camp keep, now that was a job but fun, wife works and pay taxes, property taxes eat us alive. As for these increases in taxes got news for all that are for them, Jerry Brown will find something to spend it on other than schools, get real here his is a "Democrap" and no there is nothing wrong with the spelling!Remember he needs more money for the dream act!

First of all, Miss Ginny, I contribute by educating the children of California. Let me ask you one question. What kind of education do you think your children would have received if every year their school year was reduced 10-20 days each year ? Our children already have the shortest school year of any industrialized nation in the world. The US is already behind and this only makes it worse. Do you know that we spend 8-10 times more per inmate in our prison system than we do educating our children. Do you not see a problem with that ? What do you suggest we do to fix the problem ? By the way, you may not realize it, but you were already paying that extra tax. This measure is just to extend the additional for another 3-5 years. Finally, I want to thank you for your volunteer work with our children and your service to our veterans.

@bakerbaso, normally I would ignore cmments like yours but today I'm in the mood to do just that. So, in response to your impression of me, I am not an old bitty or an old maid. I don't have a cat, we don't have money to horde; we have just enough to get by. We do not get and never have gotten any state or federal assistance. I raised my children and worked 2 full time jobs until they were through college. I still work an average of 58 hours a week and pay a combined total of 57% in State and Federal taxes on every payday, part of which supports the schools that my nieces, nephews and everyone elses children attend. I also volunteer at my local school as a tutor to children in reading, math and computer skills. I also provide support to our Vets and their families, and I collect/distribute food to those in need. Now, if you don't think I'm already doing my fair share, please explain what else you believe I should be doing...And please, how about sharing how you are contributing as well.

It's not about the CTA, but days of instruction lost.Ginny sound like an old bitty that no longer has kids in school or perhaps doesn't have children, or worse yet, has no children and is an old maid, who just hordes her money, thinks of herself only (and maybe her cat ?)and byebyeobama is just a cynical middle-aged man, probably listens to the Ralph Bailey show, thinks that Ralph is just the greatest thing, and goes to all of his live remotes and gets a photo taken with him and Ralph to put on his facebook. These two "intelligent" people will be the first to complain about the throngs of youth that will be out in about, disrupting nearby businesses, creating havoc, maybe breaking into your home, perhaps ??? Don't think it can't happen to you byebyeobama and ginny, think again !

Apparently the members of the CTA that backed BHO and the addled brain of Jerry Brown will have to "share the pain."
