More than 400 people showed up at the county health building in Taft Thursday afternoon for a swine flu vaccine, but there were only 300 of them to go around.

"I feel lucky," said Becky Gifford, who was the last person to receive a vaccine for her daughter.  "If it helps her stay healthy, it's worth it."

Since the Kern County Health Department announced Monday that it had received 7,000 swine flu vaccines from the Centers for Disease Control, residents have rushed to makeshift clinics for a chance to be protected from the virus.

At Stockdale High School Thursday evening, more than 2,000 people lined up, some waiting for hours.

Bakersfield police officers directed traffic when the large crowd arrived.

Officials handed out tickets to 1,300 people, the number of vaccines that were available.

"I got the kids out of school early to go to a doctors appoitment and then they came here," said Kathy Schaffer, who waited for more than two hours for a vaccine.  "I'm a nurse, it's definitely worth it in my eyes."

Health officials reccomend people get vaccinated for both the seasonal and swine flu.
