Students attending summer school at bakersfield high school got out of classes early Monday when the power went out.

Students were released from class around 10 Monday morning.

The school chose to let the students go, after a power outage in the downtown area knocked out all the air conditioners at the school.

Most students 17 News spoke to say the temperature inside was rising quickly.

"Eventually as we stayed in class longer it got hotter and hotter," said summer school student Jasmyne Jennings.

"There's about 50 or 60 students in one class and it just gets too hot to stay in there," said summer school student Jessica Boozer.

Most students 17 News spoke to said they hope an extra day of summer school isn't added on, since they got out early Monday.

Other downtown businesses that lost power were back on line before Noon.
