A police standoff ended overnight in downtown Bakersfield after police say a man barricaded himself inside an apartment complex, then set it on fire. "Raise your hand above your head and walk out the front door."

A resident at an apartment on 21st & F streets called police around 10:30 Sunday night after he said 21-year-old Neil Lindo began throwing his furniture out the window, yelling he had a gun and knife.

When police arrived, officers say Lindo refused to come out. Officers say about an hour later, he finally surrendered, but then noticed he had set the apartment on fire.

You can see flames coming from the windows, as he's being taken into custody. That's when firefighters were called in.
"All of a sudden it just flashed, pretty much second story," says battalion chief Gary Turner.

"This is the 3rd time he's flooded us out, this time he lit the place on fire," says resident Frank Rodriguez.

Frank Rodriguez says all his stuff burned and residents will have to find a new place to live. Firefighters say as many as eight apartment units were evacuated.

No one was injured. However, police say Lindo pepper sprayed an officer. Estimated damage is at least $50,000.
