Exciting news for area shopaholics. An outlet shopping center is coming to Tejon Ranch in Spring 2014.
Although developers can't say what stores will be in the center, they promise they've had ample interest from major retailers.
Right now, a piece of land to the east of where Highway 99 and Interstate 5 intersect, is an empty field, but in two years developers hope to turn the deserted piece of land into a sprawling outlet center.
It will be a more than 300,000 square foot, upscale outlet center with 75 to 90 stores. What stores? Tejon Ranch Company officials said they cannot disclose that yet.
"You just go to your typical outlet center across the United States, take a look at the stores that will be located there,"said Barry Zoeller, Vice President, Corporate Communications & Marketing at Tejon Ranch Company. "That's exactly who we are talking with."
Partnering with the Rockefeller Group, the "Outlets at Tejon Ranch" will be located on the east side of the Tejon Ranch Commerce Center, at the Laval Road exit.
"It's a great location for people to come. We believe the Tejon Ranch Outlets will be a destination for Bakersfield residents and residents of northern L.A. county," said Zoeller.
Zoeller said the outlet center will be built in two phases. The first is scheduled to be completed by March 2014 and will bringing with it hundreds of new jobs.
"We know that hundreds of jobs will be created, but it all depends on how many stores come in Phase One and how many stores in Phase Two and the exact size of their staffing," said Zoeller.
Zoeller said there are still final details to be worked out before construction begins.
"There have to be a number of different things that have to happen in the future in order for it to be a done deal," said Zoeller. "That being said we are very excited and enthusiastic."
